October 17th - October 21st

Welcome Back!  Hope everyone had a wonderful Fall Break.

This week marks the kick-off to the holiday season with a celebration of Halloween.  I like to stick to a fun theme...definitely nothing scary...maybe a little spooky..but not scary.
For the next couple of weeks our learning will center around more non-fiction themes.   We will also  spend a lot of time discussing real vs. pretend.  Halloween is EVERYWHERE these days.  Did you know more money is spent on Halloween decorations now than Christmas?  There is a variety of decorations out there from the whimsical to very realistic and downright scary.  This can be a scary time for a two or three year old.  One minute they are having fun with it all and the next...watch out they are freaking out!  To a small child, many of these decorations blur the lines between real and pretend.  Some kiddos are able to be exposed to much more than their peers.  This is also a common age for kiddos to experience bad dreams.  So, on this note, be careful out there...have fun carving pumpkins, roasting the seeds, hanging decorations in your windows and best of all...GASP.... figure out how to make your own costume from stuff you have around your house!  (does anyone beside me remember doing that as a kid?)
